Accusations Fly: Chinese Residents in Liberia Accused of Black Sand Theft"
Monrovia-An unidentified woman has recently accused some Chinese individual residing in Liberia of allegedly heavily stealing rich black sand and soil intended for agricultural use from her land.
The woman, captured on video, detailed how those accused Chinese individuals have purportedly been involved in the long-standing practice of excavating, packaging, and exporting black soil and sand from Liberia to China.
In the circulating video on social media, bags of black sand and soil are shown prepared for export to China for agricultural and other purposes.
The video depicts a vast quantity of bags containing rich black soil and sand, estimated to be over a hundred thousand, as recorded by the woman.
She accuses the Chinese individuals of engaging in duplicitous practices, deceiving the people of Liberia and extracting minerals, particularly from her land, for shipment to China.
In the video circulating on socials media the Bag of black sand and dirt are ready to be exported to China for agriculture and other use
More than hundred thousand bag of sand rich black and dirt and sand were seen in the video the lady was recording.
In the video, the lady accused the Chinese of playing double standard game and fooling the Liberia people and taking minerals especially what was taking from her land and shipped to china.
“Well ladies and gentlemen like I said to you guys when I was on the beach that the chines were digging and undermining my property and digging the Black sand. That hug of black sand you saw, this is the finish product. This is how they baggage it and export it out of our country.
I mean mass sand bags parked and shipped out of this country and no one is doing anything about it. Trucks a truck load leave this country every day to arrive in china” she said.
Black sands are formed through erosion of hard rocks, and are concentrated on beaches by actions of waves and currents (de Meijer et al., 2001). Mineralogical compositions of black sands are mostly controlled by the original source rocks
Black sand deposits contain heavy minerals such as limonite, magnetite, hematite, rutile, zircon, garnet, and monazite. Most of these minerals have gained strategic status because of economic factors.
These economic minerals are needed either for the nuclear industry or other metallurgical and engineering industries
In some instances, black sand deposits host some other placer minerals such as gold, silver, platinum and cassiterite
Deposits of black sand are often signs of valuable resources such as gold, rare earth elements, or gems.
