Bucky Raw Arrest Sparks Online Speculation LDEA Responds

Monrovia, Liberia: The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has dismissed social media claims suggesting that popular Liberian artist Bucky Raw has been released from custody. The agency says the information circulating online is false and misleading.

According to the LDEA, Bucky Raw is still being held as part of an ongoing investigation following a Friday morning raid at his Duport Road home. Officers carried out the operation around 7:00 AM under a court-approved search warrant as part of Clean Wave, a nationwide anti-drug campaign.

During the search, officers found 31.6 grams of marijuana and arrested the musician along with several others who were present. The LDEA explained that all drug-related crimes in Liberia are non-bailable, meaning no detainee can be released at this stage.

The agency urged the public to ignore rumors about his release since no official statement has been issued.

Public interest in the case grew after a video went viral online showing LDEA officers entering Bucky Raw’s residence while he was on Facebook Live. The footage led to widespread debates and numerous unverified claims about the purpose of the raid, what was found, and what the officers intended to do.

Amid the confusion, Bucky Raw issued a message to his fans. He insisted that he is not involved in drug distribution, calling the accusations harmful and intentional. He said some individuals are using the incident to damage his reputation and disrupt an upcoming event scheduled for Friday, December 12 at 8 pm in Monrovia.

He added that Liberia’s drug problem is a national emergency and reminded the public that he has always used his platform to encourage young people to stay away from drugs. Bucky Raw expressed disappointment that people continue to judge him based on his past, despite his efforts to change.

He thanked his supporters and urged the media to stop spreading unverified stories.

Another video circulating on social media shows the early-morning raid. Officers can be seen entering the compound while Bucky Raw and others inside shout profanities in both English and Gio (Dahn). They initially tried to stop the officers, accusing them of being “drug users” or “drunk.”

The footage also shows Bucky Raw kneeling on the floor, opening plastic bags filled with large amounts of cash, while officers stand over him asking questions. Another bag shown in the video contains a substance believed to be marijuana, though the LDEA has not officially confirmed the type or amount.

Everyone in the residence was taken into custody for further questioning.

This incident adds another chapter to the complicated public life of Bucky Raw. He was deported from the United States in 2018 for legal violations but returned to Liberia, rebuilt his music career, and became a strong voice in the fight against drug abuse. He has participated in several anti-drug marches and has remained influential among young people.
