JZyNo Voices Disappointment over Afrimma and AEA-USA Best New Artist Losses

MONROVIA: Liberian music sensation JZyNo, born Jonathan Lee Pratt, recently took to social media to share his heartfelt sentiments after missing out on the Best New Artist awards at both Afrimma and AEA-USA, losing to Nigeria's Portable at the prestigious 2023 African Entertainment Awards, USA.

JZyNo, hailing from Buchanan, Liberia, has been making waves in the music scene since gaining recognition in 2020 with his hit song "Kpan Kpan Me" featuring Teddyride. Despite his undeniable impact on the Liberian music scene, the artist voiced his disappointment on Facebook, questioning the criteria behind the awards.

“We lost Afrimma’s Best New Artist award to a Nigerian. We also lost AEA-USA’s Best New Artist award to a Nigerian. If they won over us because of population, then we have a long way to go. How Portable won Best New Artist over JZyNo in 2023?” JZyNo candidly questioned, shedding light on the challenges artists from smaller countries face in terms of recognition.

JZyNo, currently based in Ghana, made history in 2020 by bagging five nominations at the MTN Liberian Music Awards, showcasing his growing influence. His 2023 debut single, "Butta My Bread," featuring Ghanaian singer Lasmid, has become a massive success, dominating streaming platforms and inspiring a popular dance routine on social media.

The official video for "Butta My Bread," directed by Nigerian video director Clarence Peters, has been widely aired on TV and radio stations. Despite these achievements, JZyNo's recent loss at the award raises questions about the challenges faced by artists from smaller countries like Liberia in gaining international recognition.

Known for his trending afrobeat hit, JZyNo continues to navigate the music industry's complexities with resilience. His latest release, "Eyes on You," featuring Camidoh, reflects the artist's unwavering dedication to his craft and the ever-evolving landscape of the music industry. Stay tuned for more updates on JZyNo's musical journey.
