Liberia: A Divided ALCOP, As Standard Bearer & Vice Goes Separate Way Ahead of Run-off Elections

The All Liberian Coaliation Party (ALCOP) of Businessman Lusenee Kamara has officially endorsed Unity Party (UP) Presidential Candidate Joseph Nyuma Boakai ahead of the Runoff on November 14, 2023, but there is a split as its Vice Running mate, Matthew V. Z. Darblob pledged his support to the rulling Coaliation for Demoncratic Change of President George Weah. 

The ALCOP finished fourth in the October 10, 2023, acquiring 35, 988 votes which amount to 1.96%.

Speaking at the endorsement ceremony Thursday at its Campaign Headquarters on the Japan Freeway, Lusinee Kamara said the foundation of ALCOP political manifesto stands on philosophies that drive the aspirations and needs of the people. According to him, the Party has over the years provided immediate solutions to governance challenges confronting Liberia, including human rights, freedom and justice which the Unity Party share as well. 

The Liberian Businessman also noted that the Party envisages a comprehensive social security services for all Liberians, embarking on economic policy reforms and increasing investment opportunities.

Lusenee Kamara said ALCOP has no doubt that in line with its manifestos, UP led government will increase Liberia’s national budget to 1.6 billion in three (3) years which entails advancing: rigorous domestic resource mobilization.  He said the endorsement of the UP met the consent of all members and officials of the Party while calling on supporters and sympathizers of ALCOP to overwhelmingly vote Amb. Joseph Nyuma Boakai on November 14, 2023.

In respond to the endorsement, UP Torchbearer Amb. Joseph Nyuma Boakai said the overwhelming endorsement by the officials and members of the party indicates the dawn of a new day in Liberia. The former Vice President  said the decision of ALCOP is about giving every citizen the opportunity to realize the full potentials, regardless of their backgrounds, thereby creating a society that fosters growth, unity, peace, justice, shared prosperity and national progress for all.

Amb. Joseph Boakai said UP collaboration with ALCOP is a noble and patriotic move   that   will   embolden their efforts to rescue the Nation from what he calls depth of degradation to which the current wasteful and corrupt group of incompetent individuals have pushed it in six years.

He noted that he sees a future of inclusion amongst the children of Christians and Muslims, as well as various ethnic groups, working together harmoniously for the development of the nation. 
Former Vice President Boakai who described the endorsement as nationalistic said the Vision Bearer of the Party, the late statesman Alhaji G.V. Kromah, Alhaji Losene Kamara, Sheikh Kafumba Konneh, and all respected leaders of the National Muslim Council, Quardu-Gboni Paramount Chiefs Musa Gboni Kamara, and Musa (BBC) Kamara, among others are excited by the decision.

He said the Unity Party and ALCOP has commonalities as well as long standing relationship as such the Party will demonstrate the confidence being repose in the Party upon taking State power on November 14, 2023.
