NaFAA DG Emma Glassco dismissed her driver for supporting President Boakai

The Director General of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA), Emma Glassco, has shown complacency by allowing personal and political agendas to overshadow her professional duties.

Supportive of the former ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), DG Glassco demonstrated a lack of interest in allowing her workers to support the Unity Party during the elections. Appointed by Former President George Weah, Madam Glassco has been touted as one of the best leaders NaFAA has ever seen since its transition from the Ministry of Agriculture.

However, it's been noted that Madam Glassco singled out workers who supported President Joseph Nymah Boakai during the 2023 general elections in Liberia. This included her personal driver at NaFAA, Mr. Tamba Kamada, who previously served as a driver for President Boakai.

Recently, Mr. Kamada allegedly faced dismissal without salary for revealing his connection to President Joseph Boakai. He claimed to have been suspended indefinitely in October 2023 without pay for allegedly abandoning his job to campaign for President Boakai. Despite his explanations, his dismissal was finalized by Madam Glassco in January 2024, citing unauthorized entry into her car.

Mr. Tamba Kamada has been a valued member of NaFAA since 2022, working directly under the guidance of Madam Emma Glassco. During a recent interaction, Mr. Kamada shared an incident where Madam Glassco questioned him about his previous employment. Following his explanation, she remained silent.

Delving further into the matter, Mr. Kamada recounted an instance when he attended a community burial during the campaign launch for President Boakai. Upon his return the subsequent Monday, Madam Glassco confronted him regarding his absence during the campaign launch, implying he had been campaigning for President Boakai instead of fulfilling his duties. As a result, she threatened to terminate his employment, instructing security to escort him off the premises.

In response to inquiries, NaFAA Communication Director Lewis Konoe stated that he lacks knowledge of the matter and pledged to address the allegations at a later date.

On February 10, 2022, Madam Emma Glassco and her deputy, Augustine Monoblah, were unanimously confirmed as Director General and Deputy Director General for the National Fisheries and Agriculture Authority by the Plenary of the Liberian Senate.

The confirmation followed separate reports from the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry, recommending their endorsement based on their performance records. Seventeen Senators voted to confirm the Director General, while sixteen voted to confirm her deputy.

Director Glasco and Deputy Director Monoblah were renominated by President George Weah for the second time after the expiration of their respective tenures at the entity.
