Nigerian Military Delegation Visits Liberia to Strengthen Cross-Border Security Cooperation

A delegation from Nigeria’s Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), led by Brigadier General Mohammed Aliyu Abdullah, is in Liberia to explore stronger cross-border security cooperation and regional integration between the two countries.

The delegation, comprising participants in Senior Course 48, arrived in Monrovia on October 11 for an Africa Study Tour focused on “Strengthening Cross-Border Engagements for Enhanced Regional Integration and Security.” The visit highlights the longstanding security and military relationship between Liberia and Nigeria, including Nigeria’s support for the professional development of Liberian military personnel.

On October 12, the delegation met with the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) High Command at Army Headquarters in Monrovia, where officials presented an overview of Liberia’s military and security environment to support the officers’ academic research.

AFL Chief of Staff Major General Davidson F. Forleh welcomed the delegation and praised the training and education provided by Nigeria’s Armed Forces Command and Staff College, which he attended as a graduate.

Major General Forleh said the institution contributed to his military capabilities, public-speaking skills, and command and leadership development. He also commended the Government of Nigeria for its continued support to the AFL through military education, professional training, mentorship, and development programs.

The visit forms part of the college’s regional study program, which exposes military officers to security challenges and cooperation opportunities across Africa.

Nigerian Delegation Highlights Longstanding Ties

For his part, Brigadier General Mohammed Aliyu Abdullah reflected on his previous service with the United Nations Mission in Liberia, recalling his experience serving in the country.

He reaffirmed Nigeria’s willingness to support Liberia when needed and expressed appreciation to the AFL High Command for providing information to assist the delegation’s research.

According to Abdullah, the briefing will help participants deepen their understanding of Liberia’s security environment and strengthen their research papers on regional integration and cross-border engagement.

Security Institutions on Engagement Schedule

During their stay in Liberia, the visiting officers are expected to engage with several government institutions responsible for national security, law enforcement, immigration, and international relations.

The institutions include the Ministry of Justice, Liberia National Police, Liberia Immigration Service, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency.

The engagements are expected to provide the delegation with additional perspectives on Liberia’s security institutions and their roles in addressing challenges that may extend beyond national borders.

The team is also scheduled to travel to the Ganta border area and visit selected locations in Monrovia as part of the study tour.

In addition, the Armed Forces of Liberia will host a social dinner for the delegation at the Edward Binyah Kesselly Military Barracks on Friday, October 16, 2026.

The Nigerian delegation is expected to conclude its visit and depart Liberia on Saturday, October 17, 2026.

The study tour comes as regional cooperation remains an important consideration for African countries seeking to address cross-border security concerns and strengthen collaboration among their military and civilian security institutions.
