NPA Buchanan Suspends 21 Employees Without Pay Amid Ongoing Court Trial for Alleged Assault
Twenty-one employees have been indefinitely suspended without pay due to allegations of assault.
In a communication dated July 4, 2024, the National Port Authority (NPA) Buchanan Chapter issued the suspension letters, stating: "By directive of Senior Management, you are suspended for time indefinite without pay, pending the outcome of the allegation of assault at the Port of Buchanan on June 14, 2024."
Reports indicate that the suspensions followed the release of a video showing employees at the police station after worker Justin Tarr was allegedly dragged by Port Security on June 14, 2024.
The specific portion of the employee handbook allegedly violated remains undisclosed. Many of the suspended employees have claimed they were not involved in any assault or violence and did not violate any handbook policies.
It has been revealed that NPA HR did not conduct an investigation before the suspensions, raising concerns of potential human rights violations.
Notably, the assault case from June 14, 2024, is currently before the court, and the NPA's actions are seen as potentially undermining the court's investigation.
