Only School in Lower Margibi Community Struggles to Educate Over 1,000 Children

Kpor Town, Lower Margibi County: Excellence Vision Academy (EVA), a community-based school located in Kpor Town, New Vision Community, District #1 in Lower Margibi County, is appealing for urgent support as it struggles to provide education to hundreds of children despite limited resources.

During a one-day media visit on March 5, 2026, students, teachers, and administrators of the institution shared the challenges they face while continuing to serve as the only school available to children in the community.

Founded in 2024, Excellence Vision Academy currently provides education for children from Kpor Town and surrounding communities where residents estimate more than 1,000 school-age children live. For many parents, the school represents the only nearby opportunity for their children to receive formal education without traveling long distances.

Speaking during the visit, the school’s proprietor Mr. Melvin C. B. Donzo said the institution is facing serious financial and logistical challenges that threaten its growth and operations.

According to Mr. Donzo, many parents in the community are struggling economically, making it difficult for them to consistently pay tuition. The situation, he explained, has affected the school’s ability to improve its facilities, support teachers, and provide essential learning materials.

We are doing everything possible to keep the school running, but the challenges are serious,” Mr. Donzo said. “Many parents want their children to learn, but the economic situation makes it difficult for them to meet their obligations.”

The school currently operates with limited educational resources, including shortages of desks, armchairs, chalkboards, and other basic classroom materials needed for effective teaching and learning.

In addition to learning materials, the school also needs improved infrastructure to accommodate the increasing number of students enrolling each year.

Mr. Donzo is therefore calling on well-meaning Liberians, humanitarian organizations, NGOs, private donors, and the Government of Liberia to assist the school with educational supplies, infrastructure development, and financial support.

He believes such assistance would significantly improve the learning environment and help ensure that children in Kpor Town and nearby communities have consistent access to quality education.

Despite the challenges, the administration of Excellence Vision Academy says it remains committed to its mission of educating young people and providing hope for the next generation.

Even with the difficulties, we are determined to keep moving forward because the future of these children depends on the education they receive today,” Mr. Donzo added.

Community members remain hopeful that with increased awareness and support, the school can grow into a stronger institution capable of shaping the lives of hundreds of children in Lower Margibi County.
