President Boakai Calls for Equal Access to Justice without favor Across Liberia

On August 13, 2024, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai traveled from Monrovia to Cestos City in Rivercess County to open the new 14th Judicial Circuit Court.

At the opening, Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene G. Yuoh asked for more funding to help the judiciary work better. She said that while the judiciary is fighting corruption, it needs enough money to operate effectively.

Chief Justice Yuoh urged President Boakai to provide more funds. She promised that if the judiciary received proper funding, it would perform better, and if not, the President could hold them accountable.

She also mentioned that new court buildings around the country will include spaces for judges, cafeterias, and resource centers. However, the new Rivercess County Judicial Center, which cost over 1.6 million dollars, lacks some of these features due to budget limits.

Chief Justice Yuoh emphasized that the judiciary should receive its fair share of the national budget and not be treated as a lesser branch of government.
