Rep. Eugene Kollie Calls for Employment of Supplementary Teachers
Capitol Hill: Bong County Electoral District 5 Representative Eugene Kollie has penned a letter to the Minister of Education, advocating for the employment of qualified supplementary teachers in all public schools across Liberia.
Highlighting the crucial role played by supplementary teachers in the education system, Representative Kollie emphasized their dedication and invaluable contributions, particularly in rural areas. Despite their significant efforts, these educators are often hired on a supplementary contractual basis, lacking the benefits and job security enjoyed by their fully employed counterparts.
Representative Kollie urged his colleagues to prioritize the employment of all qualified supplementary teachers, starting from the current fiscal year. This initiative aims to enhance the welfare of teachers and elevate the quality of education in Liberia.
The communication has been forwarded to the Ways, Means, and Finance, as well as Education committees for legislative action. This move demonstrates a commitment to addressing the issue during the ongoing scrutiny of the 2024 budget expenditure hearings.
