Sen. Johnson Terms Boakai Appointments as Tribalistic

Montserrado County: Nimba county Senator Prince Yormie Johnson has expressed his thoughts on President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s leadership structure describing it as purely Tribalistic.

The Nimba County Senator Prince Johnson accused President Joseph Boakai of tribalism in organizing the power of the Solidarity Party-led government. Senator Johnson claimed, the UP Standard Bearer and President of Liberia has appointed more members of his tribe, Lofa County to government than any other tribe evidence of his continuous appointment of Lofa citizens in key positions in government, with two recently appearing before the Liberian Senate Thursday as deputy ministers and Monrovia City Mayor respectively.

“This is contradictory to the past administration and that is why we are here to protect” he said. Senator Johnson made the accusation Friday during the confirmation hearing of Monrovia city Mayor designate, John Siafa who is also from Lofa County.

Since the process of appointment started by President Boakai, there have been both controversies and dissatisfaction from his allies and those who strongly supported his presidential bid, both financially and otherwise. During the second round of the general elections in November of last year, the UP hustled political parties and standard bearers in every corner of the country, gathering their support at the same time promising to provide space for them and some of their followers when he became successful.

Though Knewsonline sees the struggle for appointment by the ruling party chair as selfish but sources have said that it was an agreement between both UP chair Rev. Luther Tarpeh and H.E Boakai that he, Tarpeh would serve as Managing director at National Port Authority while another person (Un-named) runs the affairs of the party. As it stands many key supporters including collaborating parties are yet to get their fair share from the struggle.

Meanwhile, as it is often said that the reward of politics is not in Heaven? Prince Johnson and others are left in limbo, while many of his MDR party members are regularly gathered at his gate seeking answers.
