Shaita Angels Edged World Girls Once Again to Win Second Orange Cup Title

Monrovia, Liberia: Shaita Angels Football Club brought to bed their second Orange Cup trophy on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, defeating rivals World Girls 2-1 in the grand final.

The Angels' victory reflected a repeat of their success in the 2024 Orange Cup, when they edged the very World Girls on penalty shoots.

Shaita Angels proved a point with the 2026 Orange Cup trophy to add to their cabinet after missing out narrowly on the Upper Women's League title.

The entertaining Grand Final match on Tuesday saw Coach Arab Fofana's girls controlling the tempo of the game throughout the first half.

The Angels pulled the curtain raiser in the 36th minute, thanks to a goal from Ivorian International Marie Lorignon which gave them the first half lead.

Down by 1-0 from the break, World Girls felt all was not over for their championship hope. The Iron ladies regrouped and levelled the scoreline 1-1 around the 80th minute.

That drove huge pressure on Shaita Angels, who were already smelling the trophy. Then, came Kumba Kuyateh in the 83rd minute with a superb finish to seal the dramatic 2-1 win for Shaita Angels at the SKD Mini Stadium.

However, in a post-match interview, Head Coach Arab Fofana hailed the team's success, and said though it missed out on the league title, it never meant to end the season trophless.

"We fought for the league championship we didn't win, so I went back and prepare for the Orange Cup. And it is good that we won it", Fofana noted.

For World Girls, the loss means a big heartbreak. The club is yet to win the Liberia Football Association's (LFA) Orange Cup despite featuring in the final in the last three seasons.

They lost titles 2 to Shaita Angels and 1 to Determine Girls.
