“Thank You, Mr. President”: Former Defense Minister Geraldine George-Johnson Breaks Silence

Monrovia Liberia:Former Minister of National Defense Brigadier General Geraldine Janet George-Johnson (Rtd.) has publicly expressed gratitude to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for giving her the opportunity to serve as Liberia’s Defense Minister, following her replacement in the government.

In a statement titled “A Note of Appreciation,” Brigadier General George-Johnson said her time in the Boakai administration was both an honor and a humbling responsibility, emphasizing that she remains committed to Liberia despite her departure from the position.

She said, “I wish to express my profound gratitude to His Excellency, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., for the confidence he reposed in me and the opportunity he afforded me to serve the Republic of Liberia as Minister of National Defense.”

The former Defense Minister said serving under President Boakai provided her with an opportunity to contribute to the country’s peace, security, and development, while acknowledging the guidance and support she received during her tenure.

According to George-Johnson, “Serving in his Administration has been a great honor and a humbling responsibility,” adding that she was grateful for the trust placed in her and for the opportunity to contribute to Liberia’s national interests.

As she transitions out of public office, the retired Brigadier General said her commitment to Liberia remains unchanged and that she is prepared to continue supporting President Boakai’s vision and the national interest whenever called upon.

“As I transition from public office, I remain deeply committed to Liberia and will continue to support the President’s vision and the national interest in whatever capacity I may be called upon to serve,” she stated.

George-Johnson also extended appreciation to government officials, the Ministry of National Defense, the Armed Forces of Liberia, security partners, and the Liberian people, crediting them for their cooperation and support throughout her tenure.

Concluding her message, the former Defense Minister offered prayers for President Boakai and Liberia, saying, “May God continue to guide His Excellency the President and bless the Republic of Liberia.” She ended with a direct message to the President: “Thank you, Mr. President, for the opportunity to serve.”
