Who Will Be Liberia's Biggest Honorees? Speaker Koon to Present Top National Awards
As Liberia prepares to commemorate its 179th Independence Anniversary, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Richard Nagbe Koon, is set to play a leading role at the 16th Golden Image Award 2026, an event that recognizes individuals and institutions whose contributions have shaped the nation's peace, development, and cultural identity.
The ceremony, scheduled for July 21 at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex in Congo Town, will see Speaker Koon serve as the Presenter of Citations and Accolades, joining national and international dignitaries in honoring recipients whose work continues to influence Liberia and beyond.
Organizers describe the Golden Image Award as one of Liberia's most prestigious national recognition programs and a major highlight of the country's Independence Day celebrations. Since its establishment in 2010 by Ambassador Juli Endee, with the endorsement of former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the initiative has celebrated excellence in leadership, humanitarian service, peacebuilding, national development, and cultural promotion.
Speaking ahead of the event, organizers said the awards continue to recognize individuals and institutions whose dedication to national service has inspired hope and strengthened Liberia's image on the global stage.
"The Golden Image Award is more than an awards ceremony; it is a celebration of patriotism, excellence, and selfless service to humanity," the organizers said.
Speaker Koon's participation is expected to highlight the Legislature's support for national initiatives that promote unity, recognize achievement, and encourage citizens to contribute positively to Liberia's development.
According to organizers, this year's edition is expected to attract prominent guests from across Africa, the Caribbean, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the United States, further demonstrating the event's expanding international profile.
"The presence of distinguished international guests reflects the growing global recognition of Liberia's efforts in promoting peace, culture, investment, and international cooperation," the organizers noted.
Through the Liberia Crusaders for Peace, Ambassador Juli Endee has continued to use the Golden Image Award as a platform to celebrate outstanding achievement, inspire young Liberians, strengthen cultural diplomacy, and reinforce the country's commitment to lasting peace, national unity, and sustainable development.
