Italian Coach Fabio Lopez Takes Charge of FC Fassell Following Alaric’s Dismissal over Poor Performance
MONROVIA, LIBERIA: Liberian champions FC Fassell have unveiled seasoned Italian football manager Fabio Lopez as their new Head Coach.
Lopez, 52, signed a season-long deal with the Soccer Missionaries, replacing former Bosnian-Australian Manager Amir Alagic, after four months in charge.
Alagic dismissal followed what FC Fassell described as a poor start to the 2025/2026 season—recording three wins, three losses, and two draws.
The club announced Italian Fabio Lopez’s appointment, on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, with optimism that the new manager will help restore the club’s dominance in the Liberian top flight.
Lopez, a UEFA Pro License holder, has explored his coaching career with clubs and national teams across Europe, Asia, and Africa.
He notably managed the Bangladesh national team in 2015/2016 and has also coached Lithuanian top-flight clubs FK Banga Gargždai and FK Šiauliai, as well as the Al-Ahli Saudi FC youth team in Saudi Arabia, before putting pen to paper for the Liberian side.
FC Fassell's President Anthony Cassell Kuoh expressed confidence in the appointment: “We want to restore the dignity of our club. Over the past month, our form has dipped, and the pride that Liberians know us for has declined a bit. Winning is all that matters, and we believe Coach Lopez can bring that spirit back.”
Speaking when he signed the season-long contract with the Soccer Missionaries, Coach Fabio Lopez said he comes with a winning mentality and focus to live up to the club’s expectations.
“When you join a champion club, the mindset must be to continue to be a champion,” Lopez said. “Our goal is to go into every match to fight to win. We will work hard to improve both team performance and individual player abilities.”
FC Fassell currently sits fifth on the LFA First Division League table with 10 points, four points behind league leaders Watanga FC, who top the standings with 14 points.
Lopez will make his debut on Thursday, November 13, when FC Fassell faces LPRC Oilers in Round 7 of the LFA First Division League.
