Breaking: Court Rejects Jallah's Acquittal Request

The Criminal Court “E” has denied a request filed by defendant Peter Bon Jallah seeking acquittal in an ongoing gang rape case.

Circuit Judge Wesseh Alphonsus Wesseh denied the motion on Wednesday, allowing the criminal proceedings against Jallah to continue.

Jallah, a former National Security Agency personnel, is facing charges including gang rape, statutory rape, and kidnapping over allegations involving a 16-year-old boy.

The defense had asked the court to acquit Jallah, arguing that the alleged victim was unable to precisely identify the second location where the alleged sexual assault took place.

But prosecutors argued that uncertainty over the exact room or location does not, by itself, create reasonable doubt about the case.

In his ruling, Judge Wesseh cited Liberian case law which provides that a motion for judgment of acquittal may be granted when the prosecution's evidence is wholly insufficient to establish the accused's guilt.

The judge, however, denied Jallah's motion, meaning the case will proceed before Criminal Court “E.”
