Monrovia, Liberia: Dr. Herbert Brewer Named as July 26 National Orator
The Liberian Government has named Dr. Herbert Brewer as the National Orator for this year's July 26 Independence Day celebration, which is slated to take place in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.
The announcement was made by the Ministry of Information during its regular press briefing on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

Dr. Brewer is a Liberian historian and author with more than 18 years of experience in academia, having served as a director, associate professor, and lecturer at several universities in Africa and the United States.

This year's Independence Anniversary will be celebrated under the theme: "Strengthening National Identity Through Liberian-led Historical Leadership."

Dr. Brewer's National Orator address is expected to inspire reflection on the nation's history, celebrate the resilience of the Liberian people, and encourage collective responsibility toward peace, development, and national cohesion.
According to a calendar of events issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, activities marking the 179th Independence Anniversary will begin on Tuesday, July 21, with the Liberia Technology Summit at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex in Monrovia.

The celebrations will continue with investiture ceremonies on Wednesday, July 22, at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex.
President Joseph N. Boakai is also expected to dedicate several newly completed government projects, including the Superintendent's Compound in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.

Other activities include an Independence Fish Market Day organized by the National Fisheries Authority, a Presidential Youth Town Hall Meeting organized by the Presidential Youth Advisory Council, and sporting events in Buchanan on July 25.

On Sunday, July 26, a special Thanksgiving and Intercessory Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Buchanan, followed by a carnival-style event organized by the Liberia National Tourism Authority.

The official celebration of Liberia's 179th Independence Anniversary will take place on Monday, July 27, beginning with the hoisting of the National Flag and a review of troops by President Boakai in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Liberia.

The ceremony will also feature a military and paramilitary parade through the principal streets of Buchanan. Indoor activities will be held at the Unification Pavilion, followed by an Independence Day reception at Buchanan City Hall.

The celebrations will conclude on Tuesday, July 28, with the dedication of the Gbarnga-Salayea Road by President Boakai and a Children's Socialization Day hosted by the President and the First Lady in collaboration with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection.
