Erradi's Lone Star Revenges against Sierra Leone with Stunning Home Victory
Paynesville, Liberia: The Lone Star of Liberia under new Head Coach Mohammed Erradi were unstoppable on Tuesday night as they pulled a convincing 3-1 win against Sierra Leone on home soil in the return leg of their double-header friendly ties.
Coach Erradi's side victory comes in sharp response to a 1-0 defeat it suffered in the first leg against their neighbors, Sierra Leone, away, in Bo City.
Bright at home, the Lone Star controlled the tempo of the game, taking a 2-0 advantage in the first half. Liberia foreign-based Sebastien Teclar pulled the curtain raiser in the 30th minute following a defensive blunder from the visitors.
Teclar's opener kept the Red White and Blue boys' torch burning, until forward Ayouba Kosiah sent in a powerful strike from inside Sierra Leone's penalty area to double the lead just before the first half whistle.
Liberia stood resolute after the break, mounting increased pressure that paid off in the 71st minute with an easy finish for defender Philip Tarnue in a 1vs1 with Sierra Leone's goalkeeper to make the scoreline 3-0.
The road to survival became rocky for the Sierra Leoneans who subsequently received a red card after conceding the third goal. But, the visitors kept being faithful as the race was not swift.
The Freetown boys later became explosive after their Liberian counterparts were also reduced to 10 men. Sierra Leone kept knocking on the doors of Liberia until they pulled one back in the added time.
The late strike only helped to reduce the score gap, bringing the tally to 3-1, but could not overturn the deficit for Sierra Leone at the SKD Sports Complex in Paynesville.
The latest win brought Liberia's head-to-head victories against Sierra Leone to 11. The Lone Star have lost 5, while 6 drew between both sides from 22 matches across all competitions.
Speaking in a post-match press conference following his first win with the Liberia National Team, Head Coach Mohammed Erradi hailed the team's performance and said the future remains bright.
"We are very happy to end this FIFA window with a win. I am proud of all my players, and I say thank you to all what they did for the national team to win", he said.
Erradi was appointed as the Liberia Men's National Team Head Coach in May 2026 on a three-year deal. He has managed two matches so far: won one and lost one.
