Bong County: After the 55th Legislature of the House of Representatives investigation, China Union had begun major assessment across Lower Bong County.
It can be recalled in November 2009, the Liberian government signed a $2.6 billion dollars agreement with the Chinese Company, China Union, to exhume iron ore at the Country's western former Bong Mines. The agreement was signed during the administration of former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
The deal that allowed China Union to operate Liberia's former western Bong Mines before the civil war was earlier operated by the German-owned Bong Mining Company.
Meanwhile, plenary of the House of Representatives derived a decision that came as a result of a letter of complaint sent by Bong county District #7 Representative Foday E. Fahnbulleh, alleging that China Union owes the County so much, ranging from roads, medical facilities, safe drinking water, and scholarships, among many other basic social services.
Speaking to K-NEWS during the occasion on Friday, the Bong County district #7 lawmaker made more clarity on the one day engagement and at the same time assured citizens of the district that his office will make sure that China Union lives up to their responsibility and will work with every state holder in the County and Country in order to implement the MDA that was signed between the company and the government of Liberia some years back with no direct benefit to the ordinary citizens.
For his part P. Mike Jury, Chairman on the House’s Join Committee set to investigate the China Union concession and also Maryland County District #2 Representative said their presence was part of the recommendation made by plenary in order to see how well China Union can structure what they want to do within the next six months period as per the MDA agreement.
He also used the medium to appreciate citizens of Bong district #7 for their patients and willingness to also dialogue between them and Liberian government including China Union as well.
