Liberian Delegation Strengthens Ties in Ghana, Secures Resettlement for Affected Buduburam Residents

A high-level delegation from the Government of Liberia, spearheaded by Deputy Minister for Legal Affairs, Cllr. Jeddi Armah, has embarked on a crucial mission to Accra, Ghana, aimed at addressing pressing issues affecting the Liberian community. Their efforts have yielded significant progress, including assurances from the Ghana Refugee Board to halt impending legal actions and the initiation of a resettlement process for affected Buduburam residents

The delegation wasted no time upon arrival, engaging in critical discussions with key stakeholders, including the Ghana Refugee Board and leaders of the Liberian community in Buduburam. These meetings paved the way for constructive dialogue and collaborative solutions to the challenges faced by Liberian nationals in Ghana.

A pivotal moment came during discussions with the Ghana Refugee Board, where assurances were provided regarding the cessation of legal proceedings, alleviating concerns and fostering a sense of relief among all parties involved.

The Ghana Refugee Board's commitment to facilitating the resettlement of approximately 261 Liberian nationals to the Cape Coast region marks a significant step forward in addressing the plight of affected individuals. The first group of 50 individuals has already begun their journey to the new settlement, with plans for the remaining residents to follow suit in the coming days.

As the resettlement process unfolds, the Ghana Refugee Board has underscored its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the relocated community, with comprehensive measures in place for the convoy's protection during repatriation, scheduled to take place between May 1 and May 20.
