LRA Calls For Greater Diaspora Participation In Tax Compliance

Monrovia, liberia — The Liberia Revenue Authority is calling on Liberians living abroad to strengthen their participation in the country’s tax system and continue supporting investment and national development.

Assistant Commissioner for Taxpayer Services Isaac B. Stevens made the call while representing LRA Commissioner General James Dorbor Jallah at the 2026 Liberia Diaspora Annual Conference in the United States.

Stevens said paying taxes should not only be viewed as a legal requirement but also as a civic responsibility that contributes to financing public services and other national priorities.

“It is important that we all pay our taxes to help make our country better for all of us,” Stevens said.

He said the LRA remains committed to collecting lawful revenues in a professional, fair and transparent manner, while facilitating legitimate trade and improving services for taxpayers.

Stevens also encouraged Liberians in the diaspora to view the LRA as a partner as they invest in Liberia, stressing the importance of continued diaspora participation in the country’s economy.

As part of efforts to improve access to tax information, Stevens disclosed that the LRA is developing an artificial intelligence-powered Contact Center.

The system, being developed by Liberian technology firm Kwagei Group, is expected to provide taxpayers in Liberia and abroad with timely information and assistance on tax-related questions.

The LRA says the Contact Center will also improve the way taxpayer inquiries are received, managed and resolved.

Meanwhile, the Authority plans to conduct outreach among Liberian communities in the United States to provide information on key areas of the Liberian tax system.

The outreach will cover real property tax, duty-free privileges, customs clearance procedures, tax filing and payment deadlines, as well as other LRA programs and services.

The diaspora engagement team includes Assistant Commissioner for Taxpayer Services Isaac B. Stevens, James B. Kokulo, Manager of the Bank and Service Delivery Monitoring Section, and Jebeh Kawah, Technical Focal Point in the Office of the Commissioner General.

The initiative forms part of the LRA’s broader effort to expand taxpayer education, improve service delivery, and make tax information more accessible to Liberians, including those living outside the country.
