Religious Leaders Reject Abortion and Sex Education in schools

Monrovia: Traditional, Muslim and Christian leaders has registered their objection to the legalization of abortion and the teaching of sex education in schools in the country.

The President of Grass Root Churches in Liberia, Reverend George Zorbor said Liberia as a nation founded under religious principles, they cannot afford to kill the unborn because killing them constitutes sin.

“We are resolved to engage lawmakers to object the abortion and teaching of sex education in schools in whatever form’’ they disclosed.

According to him, their decision was met by Muslim, Christian and Traditional leaders at the end of three-day awareness on abortion organized by the Campaigners to Stop Extreme Abortion in Liberia in Brewerville outside Monrovia.

In remarks, the Convener and the Lead Campaigner of the Campaign to Stop Extreme Abortion in Liberia, Bishop Kortu Brown, who is also the immediate past President of the Liberia Council of Churches, disclosed that about 150 people die daily in Liberia and the number will increase if abortion is legalized.

The Bishop of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church International is therefore cautioning lawmakers to oppose the teaching of sex education in Liberian schools.

The awareness, which is held under the theme: “Protecting Life and Family,” was funded by a US based Family Watch International.

The awareness is being facilitated by Dr. Monique Wubbenhorst, the former Assistant Administrator in the Bureau for Global Health at the United States Agency for International Development for the people of Liberia.
