Sen. Saah Joseph saves his face, skillfully escaped photo snap with sanctioned senator McGill

Congo town: Saah Joseph skillfully sidestepped a snap with Nathaniel McGill, Margibi County senator-elect, adding a touch of political finesse to the National Election Commission's certification ceremony on December 8, 2023.

In an intriguing twist, Hon. McGill found himself among the trio of government officials sanctioned by the US government for public corruption under the CDC administration when serving as minister of State for Presidential Affairs.

Notably, former National Port Authority (NPA) Director Bill Twehway, former Solicitor General Syrenius Cephus and current Monrovia city Mayor Jefferson Koijee shares similar  dubious distinction.

The sanction note by the US Treasury further warns citizens of Liberia not to do business with those sanctioned or they too may risk being sanctioned.

Seated strategically beside the former minister of state for presidential affairs who is now the senator elect of Margibi County, Montserrado County senator Saah Joseph still remembers the warning and takes it seriously.

During the NEC's certification program at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial complex in Congo town on Friday December 8, 2023, the senator (Ebola Hero) despite his fame of bravery even during the heat of the Ebola virus outbreak that claimed the lives of thousands could not stand risking his political career and masterfully maintained physical distance, deftly avoiding any hint of association with the now-sanctioned and stigmatized senator-elect.

The atmosphere was charged earlier in the day as protestors assembled at the National Election Commission headquarters, passionately advocating for the prosecution of Margibi's sanctioned senator-elect.

The unfolding drama added an extra layer of intensity to the certification of elected officials on that eventful Friday though at the end of the day he, was certificated by the election body something that has received intense criticism.
