WONGOSOL Engages Gender Minister on Critical Issues Affecting Women

The Women's NGOs Secretariat of Liberia (WONGOSOL) and partners including, The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation  has begun engaging women leader as a way of pushing the agenda of women. Gender Minister-designate, Madam Gbeme Horace Kollie.

 The stalkhoders advocacy engagement that began with Madam Gender Minister Gbeme Horace Kollie highlighted women's issues but not limited to under representation of women in leadership, Female Genital Mutilation and how WONGOSOL can work along to ensure that the call for gender equality, inclusion and FGM are addressed. 

According to the institution, the engagement is also meant to foster a cordial relationship between the Ministry of Gender,  the Women Legislative Caucus of Liberia; women groups and the national government. 

 During the meeting, the Executive Director Madam Esther S. D. Yango, and partner Madam Aisha Lai of Kvinna till Kvinna highlighted several challenges and prospects for women's empowerment. They also informed Madam Kollie about WONGOSOL'S plans to work with her team following their confirmation by the Liberian Senate.

“Our meeting with you is to ensure that women’s issues are brought to the table and highlighted in the national agenda” Madam Esther S. D Yango noted 

Madam Yango highlighted: “ We want to see an enabling  environment where women can connect with each other at all levels, and since  you were nominated, we feel that we can work closely with you if you give us the opportunity, to prioritize the women of Liberia”

In turn, Madam Gbeme Horace Kollie  assured WONGOSOL and partners of a pushing the agenda of women forward but called on the women of Liberia to work together, in championing their cause for inclusion. 

According to her, the Ministry will address the pressing concerns surrounding women, children and other marginalized groups, who she will lead as a Minister. 

“ When I am confirmed, the women of Liberia can be assured that I will work with them but I can not do the work and advocacy alone. I would need all the support I can get from everyone to be effective “ the Gender Minister-designate

The Gender Minister also noted that it is time to take the Ministry to the streets stating that under her reign, the Ministry of Gender/Children and Social Protection will be visible and proactive.
