Boakai Tells Citizens Liberia's US$1B Domestic Revenue Mark Represents More Than a Number

Monrovia, Liberia: As Liberia hits a historic US$1 billion in domestic revenue collection, President Joseph Boakai has said the achievement goes far beyond a numerical milestone to improving the national economy.

The Liberian leader assured citizens that the figure will not only be reflected in the revenue chat, but will greatly translate to bettering their living conditions.

In an address to the nation on Monday, September 14, 2026, President Boakai said his administration is considering setting aside a portion of the milestone collection to support Liberian-owned businesses and other critical sectors of the economy.

According to him, the initiative will be carried out through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV). He stated that the SPV aligns with his government’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, and aims to promote broader economic participation.

Meanwhile, the Liberian Chief Executive outlined several areas where increased domestic revenue is already supporting government programs.

He mentioned salary increment for more than 23,000 public sector workers and officials in health, public works, security, the Judiciary, the General Auditing Commission and the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission among others.

"Liberians are asking, what does this mean? It means an ordinary market woman must receive support to improve her conditions; civil servants must experience a reversal of the harmonization of their salaries".

 "A young student must receive quality education and a conducive environment for learning, our public hospitals must receive regular supply of medicines and our doctors, nurses, teachers, and other public servants must be sustained at their duty stations.

"It must also accelerate improvements in learning conditions and renovate facilities at public schools and the University of Liberia", he said.

To reflect, Liberia's national budget has experienced sharp growth since the ascendancy of the Boakai-led government.

Meeting the figure at approximately US$612 million in 2023, the administration took the national budget to US$699 million in 2024, and US$848 million in 2025.

However, the country, in 2026, hit a 1.2 billion milestone in its fiscal year budget. Now, with domestic revenue collection exceeding a US$1 billion threshold—the first time in the country's history, the government says it remains on course to meet its US$1.3 billion budget target by December 2026.

The historic milestone comes as the Liberia Revenue Authority reported US$1,000,479,141.45 (One billion, four hundred seventy-nine thousand, one hundred forty-one dollars and forty-five cents), in total domestic revenue collection as of September 2026.

Further speaking, the Liberian President, Joseph Boakai, said the collection underscores the competence of the relevant authorities to deliver in achieving financial instruments in the national budget.

The president credited the milestone to the efforts of the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, as well as other public instructions and taxpayers across the country.

“A billion dollar raised is a billion dollar entrusted,” Boakai stressed while vowing that his administration will continue to manage public resources and advance national development.
