“It Comes From the Hard Work of Commissioner General Jallah and His Team” — Boakai

MONROVIA, LIBERIA —  President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has praised Liberia Revenue Authority Commissioner General James Dorbor Jallah and his team for helping the country surpass US$1 billion in domestic revenue collection for the first time in its history.

President Boakai made the commendation in a special address marking the historic achievement, describing it as the result of coordinated efforts across government and the contributions of Liberian taxpayers.

The President attributed the milestone to the work of the Liberia Revenue Authority, the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, and what he described as a whole-of-government approach to strengthening domestic revenue mobilization.

“It comes from the hard work of Commissioner General Dorbor Jallah and his team at the Liberia Revenue Authority, the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, a whole-of-government approach, and the resilience of the Liberian people,” President Boakai said.

The achievement reflects a steady rise in Liberia’s domestic revenue collections over the past three years. Figures highlighted by the President show that collections increased from approximately US$612 million in 2023 to US$699 million in 2024 and US$848 million in 2025.

With collections now exceeding US$1 billion in 2026, the country has recorded an increase of more than US$388 million, or approximately 63 percent, compared with the 2023 figure.

The government is targeting US$1.3 billion in domestic revenue by the end of December.

President Boakai stressed that the milestone was achieved through taxes, duties, fees, and other lawful payments made by Liberians and businesses, rather than through borrowing or foreign aid.

He also recognized the role of taxpayers across the country, including market women, traders, workers, professionals, and businesses, whose contributions helped make the achievement possible.

Under Commissioner General Jallah’s leadership, the Liberia Revenue Authority has pursued reforms focused on improving tax compliance, strengthening enforcement, expanding digital services, enhancing revenue assurance, and modernizing tax and Customs administration.

Despite celebrating the milestone, President Boakai called for continued efforts to mobilize domestic resources and ensure accountability in the management of public funds.

He said the achievement must go beyond a financial record and translate into tangible improvements in the lives of Liberians, while strengthening the government’s ability to finance national development from resources generated at home.
