Opposition Lawmaker J. Fonati Koffa Elected Speaker as 55th Legislature Commences

Capital Building-Monrovia: The 55th Legislature began its session today, January 15, 2024, with opposition lawmaker J Fonati Koffa being elected as the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The CDC lawmaker  defeated the UP-supported lawmaker Richard Koon by a narrow margin of 36-31 votes with a nmargin of five votes.

The election of Speaker Koffa marks a significant shift in the political landscape, as the opposition party gains a prominent position within the legislative body. 

Koffa, a seasoned politician known for his strong stance on social justice and anti-corruption measures, has promised to bring about positive change and foster a more inclusive and transparent leadership at the 55th session of that august body.
