The heartbreaking incident occurred at Santiphap Stadium in Narathiwat Province as players battled through heavy monsoon conditions.

According to reports, a powerful bolt of lightning suddenly hit the field while the match was in progress, causing several players to collapse instantly. Emergency responders and spectators rushed onto the pitch to assist the victims before the injured were transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Safwan Awae suffered the most severe injuries and was pronounced dead despite desperate efforts by medical personnel to save his life. Reports also indicate that more than nine other people were injured in the strike, including fellow players, with some suffering burns and other lightning-related injuries.

The tragedy has left Yala FC, the Thai League 3 club Awae had recently joined, in mourning. The club paid tribute to the young winger, describing his death as a devastating loss and extending heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, teammates, and supporters during this painful time.

The Football Association of Thailand also expressed its sympathy, sharing the grief of Awae's loved ones and the entire football community.
