Liberian Government Unfazed by Ex- President Weah's Threats, Says Min. Piah

The Liberian government has firmly dismissed recent threats from ex-President George Weah, with Minister of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism, Hon. Jerolinmek M. Piah, stating that the administration will uphold the law and pursue justice without hesitation.

In Monrovia today, the Minister of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism, Hon. Jerolinmek M. Piah, declared that the Liberian government remains firm and unshaken by threats from former President George Weah regarding indictments of his ex-officials. Speaking at a press briefing, Minister Piah stated that the government will act according to the law, emphasizing that any officials found guilty will be held accountable for their actions.

"We want to inform the former president that the government is neither deterred nor concerned at all about your empty threats. We will do what is required consistent with law. If your people go to court and prosecutors are unable to establish the case, then that's the law," said Minister Piah. "If they are convicted by the court of competent jurisdiction, they will account for their deeds."

Minister Piah stressed that the government’s actions are based on credible audit reports from the General Auditing Commission (GAC) and the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC). He highlighted that the Boakai administration is determined to end the culture of impunity in Liberia and remains focused on holding individuals accountable for their stewardship.

He criticized former President Weah for defending his officials who have been charged, indicating that it reflects poorly on his administration. Piah noted that when Weah assumed office, he ignored over 60 audit reports from the previous administration, despite having campaigned on promises of accountability.

Commenting on accusations of witch-hunting, Piah assured that the current administration is committed to building an inclusive Liberia and will not engage in such practices. He reminded the public of past instances where individuals faced political persecution under Weah's administration, contrasting it with President Boakai’s approach.

Minister Piah encouraged the indicted former officials to face the court to clear their names if they believe they are innocent. He emphasized the Boakai government’s commitment to ending impunity and ensuring that corruption cases are not swept under the carpet.
