By: Winifred Sackor

The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection has issued a stern condemnation following a heinous attack on Jessica David by Daniel N. Tokpah in Ganta, Nimba County. Ms. David endured severe injuries, including the loss of her hand, in a vicious assault perpetrated in Jacob Town Community, Zone 2, on Sunday, April 7, 2024.

Expressing solidarity with Ms. David and all women facing violence, the The Minister emphasized the egregious violation of fundamental human rights represented by such acts. Tokpah's previous warnings to Ms. David, stemming from unresolved disputes, escalated into an appalling display of aggression, underscoring the intolerability of such barbarism in any civilized society.

The Ministry categorically denounced Tokpah's actions, reaffirming its commitment to eradicating all forms of violence against women and girls. Stressing the importance of enforcing national laws and policies aimed at combating gender-based violence, the Ministry highlighted the immediate response of social workers in Nimba County, providing psychosocial and moral support to the survivor, in collaboration with health authorities offering medical assistance.

In light of these events, the Ministry called upon the Ministry of Justice and other relevant institutions to launch an impartial investigation, ensuring justice in accordance with Liberian law. Emphasizing the need for collective action, the Ministry urged the public to report wrongdoing and join efforts to raise awareness and combat violence against women and children.

As the nation grapples with the scourge of gender-based violence, the Ministry remains steadfast in its pursuit of justice and protection for all vulnerable populations.
