Government Announces Massive Suspected Cocaine Seizure in Douzon; Two Arrested

Monrovia, Liberia:The Government of Liberia has announced the discovery and seizure of what could become the largest consignment of suspected cocaine confiscated in the country's recent history, following a major anti-drug operation conducted by the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) in Douzon, Lower Margibi County.

‎Speaking during the ministry of information regular press briefing, the Minister of Information, Jerolinmek Piah, disclosed that the operation resulted in the arrest of two suspects believed to be connected to the shipment.

‎Minister Piah described the seizure as another major breakthrough in the government's ongoing fight against the trafficking and distribution of illegal narcotics across Liberia.

‎"The Government, through the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency, has discovered and seized another huge consignment of drugs in Douzon, Lower Margibi County. The substance is believed to be cocaine, and it may be the highest quantity of drugs confiscated by the Government in recent years," Minister Piah stated.

‎Although authorities have not yet disclosed the exact quantity of the suspected cocaine, the Information Minister said preliminary findings indicate that the seizure is of an unprecedented scale and could surpass previous drug interceptions carried out by Liberian drugenforcement agencies.

‎Minister Piah confirmed that two individuals have been arrested in connection with the case and are currently in the custody of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency as investigations continue.

‎"Two persons have been arrested, and investigations are ongoing. The value of the drugs remains unknown at this time as the authorities continue their assessment," he said.

‎The government has not yet released the identities or nationalities of the suspects, nor has it indicated whether additional arrests are expected. Officials say investigators are working to determine the origin of the suspected cocaine, its intended destination, and whether it is linked to an organized international drug trafficking network.

‎The latest seizure comes as Liberia continues to intensify efforts to combat the growing threat of illicit drugs. In recent years, the country has recorded several major interceptions of cocaine and other narcotics, prompting the government to strengthen border security, improve intelligence gathering, and enhance cooperation with international law enforcement partners.
