New Year Reception Highlights Strong China–Liberia Diplomatic Relations
Monrovia, Liberia: The Chinese Embassy in Liberia, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, hosted a New Year’s Eve reception celebrating the deepening strategic partnership between China and Liberia.
The event brought together more than 60 distinguished guests, including Chinese Ambassador Yin Chengwu, Liberia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sara Beysolow Nyanti, Deputy Minister for Administration Gabriel H. Salee, Deputy Minister for International Cooperation and Economic Integration Dr. Ibrahim Al-Bakri Nyei, senior government officials, and members of the Chinese diplomatic mission.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Yin praised the steady progress of China–Liberia relations in 2025, noting increased political trust, expanding cooperation, and stronger people-to-people exchanges under the leadership of President Xi Jinping and President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.
He highlighted key milestones for China during the year, including the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, as well as reforms aimed at strengthening governance and modernization. Ambassador Yin also referenced China’s transition from its 14th Five-Year Plan to the 15th Five-Year Plan and the advancement of President Xi’s Global Governance Initiative.
Ambassador Yin congratulated Liberia on its historic election as a nonpermanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2026–2027 term, describing it as a reflection of international confidence in Liberia’s leadership and diplomatic standing.
In her remarks, Foreign Minister Nyanti reaffirmed Liberia’s firm commitment to the one-China principle and commended China’s achievements in poverty reduction and development. She welcomed China’s Global Governance Initiative, describing it as a constructive contribution to multilateral cooperation.
Looking ahead to 2026, Minister Nyanti said Liberia stands ready to work closely with China as it prepares to assume its role on the UN Security Council, with a shared commitment to peace, security, and multilateralism.
The reception concluded in a warm and friendly atmosphere, with guests engaging in cultural exchanges, games, and social activities—symbolizing the enduring friendship between the two nations.
