BREAKING NEWS: CDC Chairman Slams Govt’s ‘Yellow Machines’ Purchase, Calls It “Bad Decision”

Monrovia, Liberia: The Chairman of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), Jangar Kowo, has sharply criticized the government’s decision to purchase earth-moving equipment, commonly known as “yellow machines,” describing the move as ineffective for Liberia’s road development.

Speaking on a local radio station on March 30, 2026, Kowo stated that “buying yellow machines means nothing to road development,” insisting that the decision was misplaced and would not deliver real results.

His comments come at a time when the government is pushing the machines as a major step toward improving road connectivity across the country.

The Government of Liberia recently procured 285 yellow machines as part of its infrastructure push under the national development agenda.

  • The first batch of 137 machines arrived at the Freeport of Monrovia in February 2026.
  • The equipment includes bulldozers, graders, excavators, and other heavy-duty road construction machinery.
  • Authorities say the machines are to be tested and temporarily stationed at Camp Ware Barracks in Careysburg before deployment.
  • The plan is to distribute them across counties to support road construction, maintenance, and disaster response.

Government officials have defended the purchase, arguing that owning such equipment will reduce reliance on private contractors and speed up road works nationwide.
