Liberia Begins Biometric Registration for Ivorian Refugees
BAHN, Nimba County: The Liberia Refugee Repatriation and Resettlement Commission (LRRRC), in collaboration with the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), has launched a biometric enrollment exercise for integrated Ivorian refugees in Nimba, Grand Gedeh, and Maryland Counties.
The exercise, which began on Saturday, June 27, 2026, aims to regularize the legal status of former Ivorian refugees who have integrated into Liberian society while improving their access to civil documentation.
Speaking at the launch in Bahn, LRRRC Executive Director Counselor Jeror Cole Bangalu said the initiative is intended to strengthen refugee management and promote the inclusion of former refugees who have settled permanently in Liberia. He noted that the exercise will also help improve access to public services and address identity-related challenges faced by the beneficiaries.
Bangalu described the enrollment as an important step toward the legal recognition of integrated refugees and part of broader efforts to strengthen Liberia’s migration governance system.
At the start of the exercise, 46 integrated former Ivorian refugees in Bahn and Saclepea were enrolled into the biometric system and issued ivorian passports.
