The forum aims to be a safe and inclusive space where women can share experiences, build solidarity, and actively contribute to workplace decision-making. Officials say it represents a strategic step toward creating a more gender-responsive and equitable work environment at LSEZA.
Monrovia, Liberia: In a milestone event commemorating the 2026 International Women’s Day, (IWD2026), the Liberia Special Economic Zones Authority (LSEZA), with support from ActionAid Liberia, has officially launched a Women’s Forum—a platform designed to empower women, amplify their voices, and promote gender equality within Liberia’s industrial and trade sectors.
The forum aims to be a safe and inclusive space where women can share experiences, build solidarity, and actively contribute to workplace decision-making. Officials say it represents a strategic step toward creating a more gender-responsive and equitable work environment at LSEZA.
Speaking at the event, Markonee Knightley, Women’s Rights Manager at ActionAid Liberia, stressed the importance of collective action for women. “A Women’s Forum is a safe space where women can confidently report workplace concerns, build solidarity, transform fear into courage, and advocate for policies that strengthen gender equality,” she said.
Madam Knightley further reminded attendees that meaningful inclusion of women in decision-making strengthens both leadership and governance.
“When women stand together, systems can change. Giving women a seat at the table leads to more inclusive and responsive governance; providing access to resources and training strengthens capabilities; and respecting women’s voices ensures dignity for all,” she added.
The 2026 International Women's Day observance also emphasized the crucial role of women in economic development, highlighting the need for increased participation in Liberia’s industrial zones, trade sectors, and leadership positions.
The Liberia Special Economic Zone Authority's officials noted that women’s perspectives are essential for innovative and sustainable development strategies.
A representative of LSEZA expressed optimism about the forum’s impact on the institution. “The launch of the LSEZA Women’s Forum is a defining moment for our organization. It will empower women to lead, participate, and thrive, while fostering mentorship and collaboration across all levels of our workforce,” they said.
The creation of the LSEZA Women’s Forum underscores a shared commitment between LSEZA and ActionAid Liberia to promote gender equality, create inclusive workplaces, and strengthen women’s leadership.
This sends a powerful message that Liberia’s industrial and economic sectors are increasingly embracing women’s empowerment.
