Ministry of Education Begins Implementation of Teacher Licensing Policy
Monrovia, Liberia -Jaso Manley Jallah says the Ministry of Education is moving forward with plans to operationalize Liberia’s teacher licensing system as part of efforts to professionalize the teaching sector and improve standards within the country’s education system.
Speaking during an interview with several Journalists, the Education Minister explained that teacher licensing is already provided for under Liberia’s Education Act, but has not been fully implemented over the years.
According to the Minister, international best practices require professionals in sectors such as health and education to obtain licenses before entering the workforce, and Liberia is now seeking to apply similar standards to the teaching profession.
Minister Jallah noted that the licensing process is intended to strengthen professionalism in education, increase respect for teachers, and create a clear career pathway for educators across the country.
She explained that the system will allow teachers to progress through different professional stages, beginning as entry-level educators and advancing to proficient and expert levels over time.
The Education Minister also stressed that the initiative is aimed at changing the perception of teaching in Liberia by establishing it as a respected and recognized profession.
Minister Jallah clarified that the teacher licensing initiative is not a new policy, but rather the implementation of provisions already contained in Liberia’s Education Act.
She added that the Ministry of Education is now taking steps to fully operationalize the licensing system as part of broader reforms within the education sector.
