Police Nabs Armed Robbery Suspect Linked to Constant Attacks on Cyclists in Nimba
NIMBA COUNTY: The Liberia National Police (LNP) Nimba County detachment has confirmed the arrest of a 20-year-old man identified as Lee Meayean, and subsequent investigation into allegations of harassment of commercial motorcyclists and tricyclists in the county.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police and Nimba County Commander, Mendin Larmie, announced the arrest on Monday, February 2, 2026, saying it followed multiple complaints, accusing the suspect of "hijacking and making away with bikes, Kekehs, as well as personal belongings of cyclists".

ACP Larmie said the suspect had long been accused of using weapons to threaten riders before fleeing with their cycles, mobile phones, and cash.
According to the police commander, following the investigation, suspect Meayean will be forwarded to court to face prosecution in keeping with Liberia’s criminal procedure law.
Police revealed that items believed to be connected to the robberies were recovered during the arrest of the suspect, including a locally made "firearm" and other materials now being held as evidence.
The Nimba County Police Commander, Mendin Larmie, noted that several alleged victims had previously decried the fear over their lives regarding threats they face on traffic prior to the individual's arrest.
“He is one of the individuals responsible for terrorizing motorcyclists in Ganta and its surrounding areas,” the police commander noted.
He said the arrest was successful based on sustained intelligence gathering, community cooperation, and coordinated patrols by officers assigned in areas that have recorded reports of the alleged robbery act.
Meanwhile, the Nimba County Police detachment has assured residents that law enforcement remains resolute in combating crimes and restoring confidence across the county.
“Criminals live within the community. Fighting crime is a shared responsibility,” he said, announcing that the LNP Nimba detachment will officially launch its 2026 Community Policing Program on March 20.
ACP Mendin Larmie at the same time urged citizens, particularly commercial motorcyclists to remain vigilant and provide timely information to Police regarding any form of threats encountered on traffic.
The arrest has been since been welcomed by residents of Ganta and nearby communities, many of whom say armed robbery attacks had become a growing concern prior to the suspect’s capture.
