Gbanga, Bong County: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has ordered the immediate shutdown of Banjah Frozen Food Annex #17 in Gbanga, Bong County, after discovering unwholesome goods in its cold storage facility.
The inspection was conducted by the Ministry's inspectorate department in the county.
Making the disclosure to the media on Saturday, March 28, 2026, the Senior Commerce Inspector in Bong County, David Mentuah, said the team discovered serveral cartons of frozen fish in the company's Annex #17 cold storage to be "contaminated".
He stated that following this discovery, an immediate shutdown has been ordered to ensure the company faces penalties, including fines, before resuming operations.
Mentuah noted that Banjah Frozen Food Company has been cited to the Ministry of Commerce and Development Planning in Monrovia, where further actions against it will be taken.
Though the quantity of unwholesome goods discovered remains unknown, inspector Mentuah said the Ministry is working on the timely disposal of the consignment.
"What led to this exercise is, because of the goods that was inside here, was unwholesome. So it was not consumable. Predicated on that, we locked this place. This is why today we are getting ready to dump these goods," he explained.
However, Inspector David Mentuah has sent a strong caveat to businesses operating in and around Bong County, stating that the local inspectorate team will not hesitate to shut down any business caught selling contaminated or expired products.
He stressed that contaminated goods are dangerous to consumers' health and that the Bong Commerce Inspectorate team will intensify regulation efforts to ensure full compliance across the county.
"This will go to all businesses, is not only cold rooms alone. Sooner or later, we will be commencing our second-quarter inspection. Today we are dumping from here, when we discover other stores, they will further suit," he declared
