CSA Boss Rejects Allegations, Accuses Lawmaker of “Distortion” and Political Attacks

Monrovia, Liberia: A sharp political confrontation is unfolding between Civil Service Agency (CSA) Director General Dr. Josiah F. Joekai Jr. and Gbarpolu County Senator Amara Konneh, following what Joekai described as “misleading attacks and deliberate distortions” targeting his leadership and conduct in government.

In a strongly worded response issued Tuesday, Dr. Joekai accused Senator Konneh of spreading false narratives about his authority and role as head of the CSA, escalating tensions between the two public officials.

Joekai dismissed Konneh’s comparison between him and former National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) Director General Emma Glassco, calling the argument “false, misleading, and intellectually dishonest.” According to him, Glassco held a tenure position protected by a separate legal framework, while he serves as a political appointee under different rules.

The CSA boss further argued that he is not a civil servant and therefore not governed by civil service restrictions, contrary to claims made by the senator.

“I am not a member of any political party, though I retain the constitutional right to support candidates of my choice,” Joekai stated.

Responding to criticism over his attendance at a recent NIMBO-related event, Joekai maintained that the gathering took place on a Sunday and did not violate any law or interfere with official government duties.

He also accused Senator Konneh of fueling “bitterness, hostility, and relentless attacks” against officials associated with President Joseph Boakai’s administration.

On allegations involving disciplinary actions against employees of the Monrovia City Corporation, Joekai denied that the measures were politically motivated. He said the affected employees were sanctioned for repeated misconduct, public insults, spreading false information, and violating professional standards.

“No serious government anywhere tolerates indiscipline and coordinated attacks from individuals serving within its own institutions,” he declared.

Despite the growing controversy, Joekai said his administration remains focused on reforms aimed at restoring professionalism, accountability, and efficiency within Liberia’s public sector.

He concluded with a firm message, insisting that political pressure and criticism would not derail his work.

“No amount of political hostility or misinformation will distract me from advancing meaningful public service reforms for the benefit of our nation,” Joekai said.
