Former Senator Resigns as Senate Liaison, Cites Rule of Law and Corruption Issues

Monrovia, Liberia: Former Bomi County Senator Sando D. Johnson has resigned from his position as Legislative Liaison to the Liberian Senate, citing what he described as growing concerns over governance and accountability in the country.

Johnson’s resignation, first reported by Spoon Network on Sunday, was communicated in separate letters addressed to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and the Ministry of State.

In the letters, Johnson said he could no longer continue serving in the role “consistent with my convictions,” pointing to concerns surrounding the rule of law, transparency, corruption, illicit drug activities, and what he believes is a declining tolerance for constructive criticism within the governance system.

Appointed in March 2025, Johnson maintained that his decision was not driven by political ambition but by personal principles and a commitment to national interest.

He stated that while he is leaving public office, he remains committed to contributing to discussions on issues affecting Liberia and will continue to engage as a private citizen.

The Executive Mansion has yet to issue an official response to Johnson’s resignation.
