JUSTICE MINISTER DEFENDS SILENCE ON US$19.2 MILLION DRUG BUST

Capitol Hill, LiberiaJustice Minister and Attorney General Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh has defended the government’s decision to withhold details surrounding the recent seizure of narcotics valued at approximately US$19.2 million, arguing that premature disclosure could jeopardize ongoing investigations.

Appearing before lawmakers on Capitol Hill on Tuesday, June 16, Minister Tweh said investigators are deliberately limiting public information to protect the integrity of the case and ensure that all individuals connected to the alleged drug trafficking operation are properly identified and pursued.

Disclosing information about the US$19.2 million drug seizure at this time could undermine the ongoing investigation. As investigators continue their work, we are withholding details from the public to protect the integrity of the process,” Tweh told legislators.

The Justice Minister’s comments came in response to questions from members of the Legislature seeking updates on the high-profile case, which has generated widespread public interest and renewed concerns about drug trafficking activities in Liberia.

Authorities have yet to disclose the identities of suspects, the circumstances surrounding the seizure, or possible links to international drug networks. Officials insist that further information will be released when it is deemed appropriate and will not compromise the investigation.

The seizure ranks among the most significant drug interceptions in recent years and has intensified calls for transparency as the public awaits answers regarding those responsible and the full scope of the operation.
