Liberia Improves Performance on MCC FY2026 Scorecard

Monrovia, Liberia: Liberia has recorded a significant improvement on the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Fiscal Year 2026 Scorecard, marking a renewed sense of progress in governance, transparency, and economic management under the administration of His Excellency President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr.

According to the MCC’s official publication, Liberia passed 12 of the 20 indicators assessed for FY2026, up from 11 indicators in the previous year, signaling stronger policy performance and institutional stability.

Among the standout areas are Control of Corruption and Government Accountability, where Liberia maintained passing scores demonstrating the Boakai Administration’s growing reputation for integrity, transparency, and adherence to the rule of law.

The report further highlighted sustained achievements in Personal Freedom, Property Rights, and Women in the Economy, reflecting the government’s commitment to democratic governance, gender equity, and private sector empowerment.

  • Control of Corruption: Liberia scored 0.09, remaining above the median benchmark.
  • Government Accountability: 73%
  • Freedom of Information: 98%
  • International Market Access: 93%
  • Market Competitiveness: 60%
  • Property and Land Rights: 67%

These indicators reflect improved performance in governance, economic freedom, and institutional credibility, reinforcing Liberia’s readiness for deeper international cooperation and investment.

Despite persistent challenges in Natural Resource Protection, Child Health, and Girls’ Primary Education Completion, the Government of Liberia has pledged to accelerate reforms through increased investments in human capital and inclusive growth as demonstrated in the FY2026 National Budget.

Reacting to the latest scores, Finance and Development Planning Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts that led to the improved performance.

“The Government of Liberia will continue to work closely with the United States Government, through the MCC, to build on these gains and deliver tangible results for the Liberian people,” Minister Ngafuan said.

He also thanked President Boakai for his exemplary leadership, and extended appreciation to all government institutions and partners who contributed to the country’s positive trajectory in governance and accountability.

The Millennium Challenge Corporation Scorecard is an annual assessment by the U.S. Government that evaluates partner countries based on indicators of good governance, economic freedom, and investment in people. Liberia’s improved standing on the FY2026 Scorecard reaffirms its growing commitment to transparency, reform, and sustainable development.
