Liberia Moves to Crush Hunger with New National Food Security Plan
City Hall, Liberia: The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Agriculture, has launched three important national reports aimed at improving food and nutrition security across the country.
The reports are:
- Global Hunger Index (GHI) 2025
- Comprehensive Food Security and Nutrition Survey (CFSNS) 2025
- Food and Nutrition Security Crisis Preparedness Plan (CPP)
These documents will help the government better understand hunger issues, plan ahead, and respond quickly to food shortages, especially for vulnerable communities.
Agriculture Minister, J. Alexander Nuetah, said the reports are key tools to guide action and improve coordination.
“We must not wait for crises before acting. These reports help us respond early and protect our people,” he said.
He also stressed that food security is everyone’s responsibility and requires teamwork from government, partners, and communities.
Speaking for the UN, Pascaline Barankeba called for urgent action, saying no one should suffer from hunger.https://youtu.be/EFhPci3RulE?si=oMCpue0nhVICAphq
Despite some progress, Liberia still faces challenges like climate change, rising costs, and global supply issues. The new reports are expected to guide better planning and ensure support reaches those who need it most.
The launch brought together government officials, international partners, and civil society groups, all committed to improving food security in Liberia.
The Ministry of Agriculture says it will now focus on turning these plans into real action to improve the lives of Liberians.
