Liberia Secures Over 150 New Vessels at Global Maritime Conference in Greece

ATHENS, Greece: Liberia has recorded a major breakthrough in the global maritime industry, with more than 150 vessels expected to join the country’s shipping registry following high-level engagements at Posidonia 2026 in Athens, Greece.

The announcement was made by the Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA), which said its participation in the world’s largest maritime exhibition has already yielded significant benefits for the country.

Leading the Liberian delegation, LiMA Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer, Cllr. Neto Zarzar Lighe Sr., held discussions with international shipowners, vessel managers, maritime investors, and other industry stakeholders aimed at promoting Liberia’s maritime sector.

According to the Authority, the meetings resulted in commitments from shipowners to register approximately 150 additional vessels under the Liberian flag, further strengthening Liberia’s position as one of the world’s leading ship registries.

The Maritime Authority also disclosed that several international shipping companies expressed interest in recruiting more Liberian seafarers, creating new employment opportunities for qualified Liberian maritime professionals.

Speaking from Athens, Cllr. Lighe described Liberia’s participation at Posidonia 2026 as highly successful, noting that the strong interest shown by global shipping companies reflects continued confidence in Liberia’s maritime administration.

He added that the expected increase in registered vessels will not only enhance Liberia’s standing in the international shipping industry but also generate additional revenue and contribute to national development.

Posidonia 2026 has brought together major players in the global maritime sector, providing countries like Liberia an opportunity to strengthen partnerships and attract new investments in the shipping industry.
