Liberians to Benefit from 3-Year U.S. Visas: President Boakai Applauds Move

MONROVIA, LIBERIA: Liberian travelers will now enjoy longer-term U.S. visas following a decision by the United States Department of State to extend the validity of certain nonimmigrant visas from 12 months to 36 months. President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has welcomed the announcement, describing it as a milestone in Liberia-U.S. relations.

The new policy, effective immediately, applies to B1 (Business), B2 (Tourism), and B1/B2 (Business/Tourism Combination) visas. Qualifying Liberians will now receive multiple-entry visas valid for three years, with no reciprocity fee attached.

In a statement, President Boakai called the decision “a clear reflection of the strong and enduring partnership between Liberia and the United States,” noting that it underscores the shared democratic values and mutual respect between the two nations.

The President emphasized that the visa extension will make travel easier for Liberians, while also promoting business, investment, educational, and cultural opportunities. He highlighted the role of such initiatives in deepening people-to-people connections between the two countries.

“This development reflects growing international confidence in Liberia’s progress and engagement with the global community,” President Boakai said. “It opens new doors for our citizens to explore opportunities abroad while strengthening bilateral cooperation with the United States.”

The Executive Mansion indicated that the move also aligns with the administration’s ongoing efforts to expand Liberia’s global engagement, creating a more inclusive environment for Liberians to interact with the international community.

President Boakai expressed gratitude to the U.S. Government, calling the decision a positive step toward closer cooperation and enhanced exchange in areas of trade, tourism, and education.

Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti welcomed the visa extension, pledging to continue implementing the president’s foreign policy vision and to engage U.S. and other international partners to maximize benefits for Liberian citizens abroad.

Observers say the move will not only facilitate easier travel for Liberians but also signal Liberia’s growing diplomatic confidence, strengthening ties with one of its key international partners.
