Monrovia, Liberia: Liberia’s re-election to the prestigious IMO Category “A” Council seat for 2026–2027 highlights the nation’s growing influence among the world’s leading maritime nations and confirms confidence in its maritime governance.

The Liberia Maritime Authority held a strategic and celebratory three-day year-end retreat, reflecting on a successful 2025 and setting a clear path for sustained growth in 2026.

LiMA Board Chairman Hon. S. Tornorlah Varpilah praised the management team for steering Liberia’s maritime program to new global heights, emphasizing unity, professionalism, and teamwork.

Hosting the 8th AAMA Conference reinforced Liberia’s status as a continental and global maritime leader, strengthening partnerships across Africa and beyond.

Liberia increased scholarships at the Regional Maritime University, constructed a new dormitory for Liberian students, and secured at least 10 annual scholarships through a new MOU with Shanghai Maritime University.

A newly signed LiMA Shanghai Maritime University MOU enhances technical cooperation, maritime training, and academic exchange building a skilled workforce for the future.

Liberia achieved the highest number of votes in its IMO re-election through strong collaboration between LiMA, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and international partners proving the power of teamwork.

The LiMA Board approved key initiatives, including:

Creation of a Budget Unit to improve financial efficiency

Plans to establish a Liberia Shippers Council

Continued progress on the LiMA Executive Annexe
