Martin K. N. Kollie Foundation Awards Scholarships to 75 Students in Margibi

Kakata/Harbel, Margibi County: The Martin K. N. Kollie Foundation has awarded scholarships valued at more than half a million Liberian dollars to 75 students in Margibi County, targeting beneficiaries enrolled in vocational institutions and Margibi University.

According to the foundation, the scholarship program attracted over 1,500 applicants, from which 75 students were selected following a screening process. The support is directed mainly toward Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs, with a smaller number of beneficiaries drawn from Margibi University.

The distribution of beneficiaries includes:

  • 50 students from the Lib Sister Youth Empowerment Vocational Training Program in Kakata
  • 10 students from the Harbel Multilateral Accelerated Vocational Training Program
  • 10 students from the Perfect Love Vocational Training Program, Harbel
  • 5 students from Margibi University

The foundation’s Chief Executive Officer, Martin K. N. Kollie, approved the disbursement of L$600,000 for the three vocational institutions, along with US$285 to support five students at Margibi University.

The funds were officially received on Thursday, January 8, 2025, by Emmanuel M. Kangar Jr., a journalist and member of the foundation’s team, who said the assistance would help ease financial pressure on students pursuing education and skills training in the county.

The beneficiaries are expected to pursue certificates, diplomas, and degree programs in areas such as plumbing, masonry, agriculture, tailoring, carpentry, electricity and electronics, automotive repair, information technology, and related fields.

The foundation says the initiative forms part of its broader efforts to expand access to education and vocational skills among young people in Margibi County, amid ongoing challenges faced by students in funding their studies.
