President Boakai Repositions LRRRC, Appoints Cllr. Bangalu as Executive Director; Nominates Atty. Kruah as Youth Minister
Executive Mansion, Liberia: President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has announced a major restructuring of key government institutions, appointing former Youth and Sports Minister Cllr. Jerror Cole Bangalu as Executive Director of the Liberia Refugee Repatriation and Resettlement Commission (LRRRC), while nominating Attorney Cornelia W. Kruah to take over the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The move signals a strategic shift by the Boakai administration to expand and reposition the LRRRC in response to growing national, regional, and global migration pressures, particularly within the Mano River Union and the wider West African sub-region.
According to the Executive Mansion, the repositioning of the LRRRC is aimed at strengthening Liberia’s capacity to manage cross-border movements, refugee repatriation, returnee reintegration, and migration-related security concerns linked to porous borders and evolving regional dynamics.
With his appointment, Cllr. Bangalu is expected to provide stronger operational leadership, improve inter-agency coordination, and guide the Commission as it assumes a broader role that goes beyond traditional humanitarian functions to include contributions to national security planning and migration management.
President Boakai noted that Liberia is at a critical moment, facing increasing migration challenges that demand institutions capable of proactive coordination, policy alignment with international and regional protocols, and strategic national preparedness.
The President commended Cllr. Bangalu for his service at the Ministry of Youth and Sports and expressed confidence that his legal background, administrative experience, and public service record will help reposition the LRRRC as a more effective and responsive institution.
In a related development, President Boakai has nominated Attorney Cornelia W. Kruah as Minister of Youth and Sports, following Cllr. Bangalu’s reassignment.
Additionally, the President has appointed Honorable Jackson Paye as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority (LCAA).
All nominations are subject to confirmation by the Liberian Senate, where applicable.
