President Boakai Says Economy Grew 5.1%, 70,000 Jobs Created
Monrovia, Liberia: President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has announced that Liberia’s economy grew by 5.1 percent in 2025, citing progress in job creation, agriculture, and national development as key achievements of his administration.
Speaking during his 2026 State of the Nation Address at the Capitol Building, President Boakai disclosed that more than 70,000 jobs have been created nationwide through government-led investments in infrastructure and productive sectors.
“We are proud to announce that the economy grew by 5.1 percent in 2025,” the President said.
He further revealed that government has commenced the reactivation of the Putu Iron Ore Mine, describing the move as critical to boosting economic activity and contributing significantly to national development.
President Boakai also reported major gains in agriculture and food security, noting that ongoing support to farmers and rural communities has helped improve livelihoods while strengthening domestic food production.
On public spending, the President disclosed that as of November 2025, government expenditure stood at US$709.7 million, reflecting continued investments in priority sectors.
He confirmed that Liberia’s second Millennium Challenge Corporation Compact will focus on job creation and energy development, aimed at expanding employment opportunities and improving access to electricity.
In education, President Boakai announced that all outstanding arrears owed to 230 Liberian students studying abroad have been fully settled.
Addressing security concerns, the President warned that anyone found responsible for the recent arson attack on the Capitol Building will face the full weight of the law.
“If those responsible for the arson attack on the Capitol Building are found guilty, they will face the full weight of the law,” he said.
The President also cautioned against narrow personal interests, emphasizing that Liberia is moving forward.
“I use this time to remind those narrow-minded personal interests that this country is moving forward, not backward,” President Boakai declared.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive growth, accountability, and national unity, urging Liberians to remain focused as government advances reforms aimed at restoring stability and expanding opportunity.
