Gongloe Presses Police to Back McGill Clearance With Facts in 14-Year-Old Rape Case
Monrovia, Liberia: Human rights lawyer Cllr. Tiawan Saye Gongloe has moved to challenge the Liberia National Police’s handling of a statutory rape allegation involving a 14-year-old girl and former Deputy Youth and Sports Minister, Bryant McGill.
In a formal communication to Police Inspector General Gregory O. W. Coleman, Gongloe requested that the police release all materials used in their investigation, arguing that the family of the minor whom he represents has a legal right to review the evidence.
The alleged rape was reported in 2025. However, on January 12, 2026, the Liberia National Police announced that McGill had been exonerated, citing results from technical and forensic examinations carried out locally and internationally.
Gongloe is now asking the police to back that decision with documentation. His request covers the final investigative findings, DNA testing reportedly conducted outside the country, medical and laboratory reports, digital and CCTV evidence, and any scientific analyses relied upon by investigators.
He is also seeking a detailed account of how the investigation was conducted, including the procedures, tools, and standards applied before the police reached their conclusion.
